FORT WORTH (August 17, 2020) – School of Medicine faculty member Evonne Kaplan-Liss, M.D., the Assistant Dean for Narrative Reflection and Patient Communication, along with special guests Lenore Pearlstein, owner and founder of INSIGHT into Diversity magazine and Vlad Khaykin, the ADL National Director of Programs on Antisemitism discussed how combat antisemitism in medicine, education and public settings on August 13.
This discussion came after recent incidents involving TV celebrity Nick Cannon and NFL player DeSean Jackson where both made comments many deemed to be anti-Semitic. Our panel of experts were also joined by three of our first-year medical students, Hanna Makk, Paige Miller and Illana Zago. The students shared their thoughts on the issue and also shared original poems that represented their ancestry to Holocaust survivors.
Our panel of experts discussed techniques on how to have conversations about antisemitism and also what resources are available to help others understand and become an ally for people within the Jewish community.
