Thrive: Medical Student Wellness

Physician burnout has become an epidemic, with far reaching implications for patients, clinicians, and health systems. Physicians in training must be educated about burnout, but more importantly must be engaged to consider what information, skills, and advancements are needed to mitigate the effects of burnout and move toward resilience.


The TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine has developed the THRIVE wellness curriculum.  THRIVE is the longitudinal, integrated and collaborative system of instruction, learning and support for the School of Medicine students focusing on their well-being. The desired outcome of this curriculum is the continuance and/or development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes about wellness. THRIVE is leveraged within the SOM curriculum and the co-curriculum and will provide information, practice opportunities and tools that are needed to thrive throughout a productive career despite the challenges inherent to the practice of medicine.


School of Medicine students will use the Well-Being Index as a tool to self-assess and to monitor their well-being.
